Wishing You a Safe and Healthy Holiday Season

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) encourages everyone to stay healthy and mindful during the winter months. Their seasonal guidance includes tips for preparing for winter storms and staying healthy during holiday gatherings – an important reminder as we move through a busy and often stressful time of year.

For dental employers, December is an ideal moment to reflect on workplace successes and challenges while preparing for the year to come. A proactive approach to health and safety helps protect patients and staff and ensures continued compliance with US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements. To support this effort, we recommend completing a year-end safety review that includes:

• Reviewing all written safety plans and operating instructions, updating them as needed and seeking input from employees.
• Completing required employee training and recordkeeping for the current year.
• Conducting an annual safety walkthrough to assess daily practices, identify discrepancies, and implement corrective actions.

Creating and maintaining a safe dental workplace requires diligence and ongoing oversight, but the benefits are clear: improved protection for staff and patients, reduced risk of incidents, and stronger regulatory compliance.
