Reminder: Offer Hepatitis B Vaccination to All Potentially Exposed Employees
As mandated in Federal OSHA Standard 1910.1030(f)(1), employers must offer the hepatitis B vaccination to all employees with the potential for occupational exposure to bloodborne pathogens (BBPs), within ten working days of initial employment:
1910.1030(f)(1) The employer shall make available the hepatitis B vaccine and vaccination series to all employees who have occupational exposure.
Employers are not required to offer the 3-shot vaccination series to employees who have already received the three-shot vaccination series, but should have them sign a written declination form. Additionally, employers do not need to offer the vaccination to employees who do not have occupational exposure to BBPs, such as front office staff.
For our OSHA Review Subscribers… A hepatitis B vaccination declination form, Quick Guide 4 – Record of Hepatitis B Vaccination Offer, can be found in Section III of your OSHA Review binder.
