Annual Flu Shot Reminder

The flu season is beginning in the United States. Flu activity often begins to increase in October, peaking between December and February. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), recommends that everyone 6 months and older should get vaccinated annually against seasonal influenza (flu), ideally by the end of October.

There are no federal or state requirements that require dental healthcare personnel (DHCP) to be vaccinated against the influenza. However, even though flu shots are not required, they are strongly recommended for all DHCP, unless contraindicated. Additionally, some local health jurisdictions in California mandate that DHCP working in their jurisdictions receive the flu vaccine. Refer to your local public health department for specific information on local flu vaccine mandates.
