CDC Warning: Expect Severe Flu Season – Infection Control
Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued a health advisory, warning the public to expect a severe flu season this year. The most common flu variants circulating to date this year are the influenza A H3N2 viruses, which are are associated with more severe flu illnesses, visits to the hospital, and deaths. Additionally, the CDC is reporting that half of the viruses analyzed from patients are viruses with genetic changes that differ from the season’s vaccine. CDC is trying to get the word out to the public to be prepared. Preparation methods include vaccination, prompt treatment for high-risk individuals, and staying home when ill.
