CA Reminder: Annual Requirements for Workplace Violence Prevention

As of July 1, 2024, California employers are required to have a customized written workplace violence prevention (WVP) plan and to provide annual WVP training to their employees. Training must also be conducted when changes to the WVP plan are made and/or when a new threat has been identified by the employer.

As July 1, 2025, approaches, employers must complete the first annual review of their workplace violence prevention plan, and make changes to the plan if necessary. Additionally, employers must provide annual WVP training to employees, covering the specific elements of the WVP plan.

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), a division of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), has online WVP training resources which can be accessed at https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/topics/violence/.

For our OSHA Review subscribers… OSHA Review subscribers may refer to the March/April 2024 OSHA Review Training Document, in Section I of your OSHA Review binder, which covers workplace violence prevention and may be used as a training tool to provide the required annual training to employees.
