New Mandatory Update to Cal/OSHA-Required IIPP
Cal/OSHA requires every California employer to establish, implement and maintain a written Injury and Illness Prevention Program, and to maintain a copy at each workplace. The requirements for establishing, implementing and maintaining an effective written injury and illness prevention program are contained in Title 8 of the California Code of Regulations Section 3203 (8 CCR 3203) Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Your IIPP Template Form can be found in Section I of your OSHA Review binder, which should be filled out and customized to the policies and procedures of your dental office.
New Provision
A new update to Cal/OSHA’s IIPP Standard – 8 CCR 3203 – took effect July 1, 2020. This new provision requires all employers to provide their employees or authorized representatives with a written copy of the company’s IIPP within 5 business days, in a reasonable time, place and manner, at no cost to the employee upon request. In addition, employers are required to provide training to notify employees of their right to access. The new employee IIPP access requirement must also be documented in the employer’s IIPP.
The employer must provide a written copy of the IIPP, unless the employee agrees to receive an electronic copy. Employers may provide access through a company server or website when the employee, as part of their regular work duties, predictably and routinely uses such means to communicate with management or coworkers.
Updated IIPP Available Online
An updated IIPP Template Form, which includes the updated employee IIPP access information, can be downloaded from OSHA Review’s website; after logging into your account, under the OSHA Review menu at the top of the page, select Professional Documents.
