CDC, White House Partner on Combating Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic resistance, which occurs when bacteria stop responding to the drugs designed to kill them, has risen to epidemic levels in the United States. In order to combat this growing problem, we have to change how we prescribe and use antibiotics. To this end, both the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the White House have come together to spread the word about the importance of antibiotic stewardship. The White House recently held a forum on antibiotic stewardship, and the CDC added an informational article on “Improving Antibiotic Use” to its June features. Both agencies’ online resources provide valuable tips on fighting antibiotic resistance. By committing to antibiotic stewardship, we protect our current and future antibiotic arsenals.
