Hepatitis B Booster Shots – Not Required for Employees

Healthcare employers are not required to provide routine booster shots or serologic testing to their employees, other than serologic testing immediately following the vaccination series. OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard incorporates the recommendations of the U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) by reference as a regulatory requirement. Currently, the USPHS does not recommend booster shots nor routine antibody testing for healthcare employees because evidence suggests that immunity can be present even without measurable levels of HBV antibodies. Therefore, dental employers are not required to provide these to employees.
