Testing Dental Ultrasonic Cleaning – Infection Control
First check the manufacturer’s instruction manual for ultrasonic cleaner maintenance information and recommended testing frequency. If manufacturer’s information is not available, the aluminum foil test, recommended on a monthly basis, is a fast and simple method to check the cleaning power of ultrasonic cleaning units.
Fill the ultrasonic tank with fresh cleaning solution and run the unit as usual. Lower a piece of aluminum foil into the operating tank vertically along the entire length of the tank until almost touching the bottom. Expose the foil to ultrasonic waves for 30 seconds.
Adequate functionality will result in uniform pitting and indentations on the foil. “Blind spots” or areas with no pitting indicates that the device is not cleaning uniformly and that service is needed.
And don’t forget… SUV Disinfectant and Cleaner is a powerful, cost-effective ultrasonic cleaning solution, to clean reusable dental instruments prior to sterilization.
