EPA Updates X-ray Protection Guidelines – Dental Regulations

In January, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issued updated medical x-ray protection guidelines, replacing the 1976 version. Developed in conjunction with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Federal OSHA, the guidelines are voluntary only, but can be used by other agencies, states, and the private sector as a useful reference. EPA is encouraging the healthcare industry to minimize patient’s exposure to radiation to “as low as reasonably achievable” when using x-ray machines. EPA’s X-ray Protection guidelines can be accessed here.
