HIPAA Guidelines on Mobile Devices and Dental Offices
Does Your Cell Phone Comply with HIPAA Guidelines?
More and more healthcare professionals are using smartphones, laptops, and tablets at work. While the portability of such devices offers advantages, one disadvantage is the security of such devices. To help with this concern, last month, the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), which is part of US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), released guidance information on HealthIT.gov to help HIPAA-covered entities secure their patients’ protected health information (PHI) on mobile devices.
ONC coordinates a variety of programs to implement HITECH and supports the efforts of several related initiatives to facilitate nationwide adoption of health information technology. One of these initiatives, healthit.gov, helps patients, doctors, and stakeholders get the IT information they need, empowering them to make changes, and improving the nation’s health.
Learn more tips and information to help you protect and secure health information patients entrust to you when using mobile devices.
